The Potash Industry Today

Potassium is a vital nutrient for plant growth and as such is a critical component for worldwide agriculture industry. The need for production and investment in potassium today is compelling and is essential to sustain the evolving and overwhelming agricultural markets and is forecast to be in greater demand and at generally higher prices over the next 5 years.

Potassium, which is produced and sold most commonly as potassium chloride, or potash, is forecast to be in greater demand and at generally higher prices over the foreseeable future. Potash boosts crop development, maintains water retention, and enhances the resistance to multiple plant diseases.

Potash-containing fertilizers are particularly required for the depleted soils of India and China, and the marginally acidic soils such as those in Brazil. Potash is critical for the efficient production of high energy content crops such as corn, sugar cane, palm oil, and soy. Interest in these crops has also increased dramatically due to the recent focus on the production of bio-fuels.
