CDI Receives Top Award in Science & Technology in China

The Mengo Potash Project’s engineering and design partner, Changsha Design and Research Institute of Ministry of Chemical Industry (“CDI”), was awarded the First Prize of China’s 2013 National Science and Technology Progress Award (“Award”) for its 1.2 mtpa Luobupo potassium sulphate technology development project (“Luobupo Project”). Chinese President Xi Jingping presented the award at a high-profile annual ceremony held in Beijing on Jan. 10, 2014 to honor distinguished scientists and research achievements.
Covering all sectors of Chinese economy, the Award recognizes technological achievements with the highest overall degrees of innovation, complexity, applicability, technological and economic sophistication, as well as promotion of sector development, etc. The Luobupo Project was among the 13 projects that won the First Prize of the Award this year. According to Mr. Chen Zhimin, Deputy Director of China’s National Office for Science & Technology Awards, this year they recorded the fewest number of Science and Technology Progress Awards given since 2000.
