Re-launch of the Mengo Poultry Farm

The Mengo poultry project was launched again on Feb. 17, 2014, with the arrival of 450 chicks. Under a distortion-free disease control program, the following vaccines were administered:

-  Vaccine against Newcastle disease (HB1)

-  Vaccine against Gumboro IBD disease

-  Booster vaccine for HB1/H120

-  Booster vaccine for Gumboro

So far the mortality rate is 1.1%, considerably lower than the normal level of 5%, suggesting that the measures administered have been effective. The 445 remaining chicks weigh between 200-240 g each.

This poultry project aims to transfer know-how to the community through training and support to local farms.
